Wagering Types

Basic Bets

Minimum bet is $2, unless otherwise indicated. (Some "exotic" wagers have $1 minimums.)

Win - You collect the win payoff when your pick finishes first.

Place - You collect the place payoff when your pick finishes second or first.

Show - You collect the show payoff when your pick finishes third, second or first.

"Across The Board" - Is making equal win, place and show wagers on the same horse. "$3 across the board on No. 6" is the same as saying "$3 to win, $3 to place, $3 to show on No. 6."

More Advanced Bets

Daily Double - You win the Daily Double when you pick the winners of two consecutive races. "$2 Daily Double, 5 and 9."

Exacta - You win an Exacta by picking the first two horses in their exact order of finish. Be sure they are in finishing order when placing your bet. "$5 Exacta, 8 and 1."

Trifecta - You win a Trifecta by picking the first three horses in exact order of finish. "$2 Trifecta, 7, 1 and 5."

Superfecta - You win the Superfecta by picking the first four horses in exact order of finish. "$1 Superfecta, 7, 1, 5 and 2." Minimum bet: $1.

Pick 3 - You win by picking the winners of three races in a row. "$1 Pick 3, numbers 3, 3 and 9." Minimum bet: $1.

Complex Wagers

Boxing - Covers all possible winning combinations of your selected horses for a type of wager. You could, for instance, do a three-horse Exacta box -- "$2 Exacta Box, 1, 2, 5." You win if the horses finish in any of the following orders: 1-2, 1-5, 2-1, 5-1, 2-5, 5-2. Remember, though, that each combination constitutes a separate wager.

You can box two or more horses in an Exacta Box; three or more horses in a Trifecta Box; and four or more horses in a Superfecta Box.

Wheeling combines one horse with every other horse in the race. A "$2 Exacta Wheel, 3 all" in an eight-horse race places seven $2 bets: 3-1, 3-2, 3-4, 3- 5, 3-6, 3-7, 3-8.

A Partial Wheel combines one horse with some of the other horses in the race. A "$2 Exacta Partial Wheel, 3 with 1, 5, 8" places three $2 bets: 3-1, 3-5, 3-8.
