Placing Wagers

It’s easy to place a wager, whether using a mutuel clerk or a self-service machine.

If you go to a mutuel clerk, follow the order below:

1. State the track and race number you wish to wager on.
2. State the amount you wish to wager.
3. State the type of wager you wish to make.
4. State the number of the horse or horses you wish to wager on.
   For example: "Hawthorne, 6th race: $5 to win on number 8."
   Or: "Hawthorne, 9th race: $2 exacta box, 6-9."

   If you don’t place your order is exactly that order, the clerk will still be able to punch your ticket for you. However, following the order above speeds up the process and reduces the chance for error.

Please have your money ready when you go to the window. Please check your ticket before leaving the window.
